According to a survey conducted by the Economist
Intelligence Unit, Melbourne (Australia) is the most liveable city in the
world. It has topped the list for the fifth consecutive year. The survey looked
at liveable criteria – healthcare, education, stability, culture, environment
and infrastructure – of 140 cities. Each city was rated out of 100. Melbourne
received a score of 97.5, with its low crime rate a key factor in retaining the
title.

2010, average liveability across the world has fallen by 1%, led by a 2.2% fall
in the score for stability and safety.

the cities surveyed have seen declines in liveability over the last 5 years.

in previously stable regions, such as Europe and North America, caused by
incidents like the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris and civil unrest in a number
of US cities.

Harare, Kathmandu and Dubai recorded the most improved scores.
